Benjy Lombard

Biography
I am from Murrysville, Pennsylvania (outside of Pittsburgh) and attended Franklin Regional Senior High School. Currently, I am a freshman here at Penn State and am intending on majoring in Energy, Business, and Finance; and International Studies. After graduating from Penn State, I have aspirations to attend law school.

As a freshman, I have already been very active in UPUA. During the fall semester, I was made a Schreyer Honors College delegate to the UPUA, and became involved with the Academic Affairs Committee. This semester I have continued to work with the Academic Affairs Committee, but as the Schreyer Honors College representative. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working with the UPUA this year and am looking forward to next year.


Platform
Throughout the year, I have been introduced to many issues facing students while being active in UPUA. Some of the main issues that I would like to address next year are rising tuition, football ticket allocation, the development of a book exchange, and creating better communication between student councils/organizations.

Even though the above issues are of great importance to a majority of Penn State students, we in the Honors College also have many issues that are only specific to us. Some of the issues that have been voiced during our SHC Student Council meetings include the elevation of the minimum GPA to 3.4, not using the SAT exam to select incoming students, and the availability of some honors courses. Next year, I would like to emphasize SHC interests in the context of other academic colleges to the UPUA in order to better communicate our interests.

Also, one of the benefits of being a small college with an active student council is that our student council meetings provide us with a great venue for raising our concerns. Because of this open venue, I encourage you to approach me with any issues you may have.

  1. Bringing more Schreyer Honors College concerns to the UPUA
