Biography
I am a junior who is double majoring in Secondary Social Studies Education and Political Science. I am from Gibsonia, PA and was an active leader in my community before coming to Penn State. I was President of three clubs at my high school, and was in charge of Boy Scout Troop 195, where I later earned my Eagle Scout rank. I came to Penn State and hit the ground running, being involved with the East Halls Residence Association freshman year. I also was selected, and then elected to the University Park Allocations Committee (UPAC) for 3 semesters. Last semester I had the pleasure of serving on the Executive Board of the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) as the Media Director. I currently serve as the President of the Penn State College Democrats and Vice-President of Penn State United Nations.
Platform
In my experience as the Media Director of UPUA I was able to see firsthand how the organization works from the viewpoints of someone who was present at General Assembly meetings, and Executive Board meetings. These observations led me to believe that the student body needs REAL REPRESENTATION. I will offer that if I am elected to be an At-Large Representative of the University Park Undergraduate Association.
I say that REAL REPRESENTATION is needed because as Media Director, I coordinated the implementation of the “I’m Pissed About This” campaign. I felt that students needed to be directly engaged in what their concerns were, so that UPUA could advocate for student’s needs. This campaign was needed because Representatives in the organization were either A) not attending meetings, or B) not talking to students and representing their concerns to UPUA. I will be a REAL REPRESENTATIVE and do these things, as well as write legislation to address student concerns, show up to UPUA events, and continue the “I’m Pissed” campaign.
From the "I'm Pissed" campaign I learned many student concerns that have not yet been addressed by UPUA. These include:
- Transparency in where our tuition dollars go in an effort to make cuts and decrease tuition
- A higher number of printing credits and a different music program, or a lower IT fee
- An affordable off-campus meal plan, with possible inclusion of downtown restaurants
- REAL REPRESENTATION, which includes members of UPUA showing up, representing student needs, and being held accountable by UPUA itself
Commitments
I plan to run for re-election as the President of the Penn State College Democrats and to help elect candidates that will be good for college students next semester.
