Stephen Lucas

Biography
Hey everyone! My name’s Steve Lucas. I’m currently a sophomore majoring in English and Political Science with strong interests in public policy and advocacy. My interest in continuing my work with UPUA stems from my belief that our student government must take all students' voices into consideration before making decisions that affect us all. On a more personal note, I balance out my academics and extra-curricular involvement with frequent slipping on icy sidewalks downtown, tripping over my own two feet or the big planters across from the HUB, and lip-syncing across campus to the tune of Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone" on my iPod.
Platform
In order to be an effective representative of Penn State students, I realize that I must be as devoted to listening to my peers as I am devoted to leading and advocating on your behalf. My commitment to being your representative carries with it an understanding that I cannot possibly produce every necessarily perspective alone. I will to continue to reach out as many students and student communities as possible and to bring their voices to every UPUA meeting.
UPUA is a young governing body, and as such I believe Penn State students should hold us accountable while we’re in office. We act your voice and we must do our best to voice your concerns – but we cannot do our jobs effectively without your input. I’m proud to have been part of the diversity committee this past semester as we passed a resolution that seeks to actively investigate issues of campus climate and provide a more comprehensive understanding of the specific challenges students face.
I stake my candidacy on being an active listener to whom you can express your concerns, a disciplined leader who pursues your ideas for our future, and an engaged advocate who fights for what means most to you.
