UPUA to Host “We Are Worth Funding” Day of Action

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – Nov. 3, 2016 – The University Park Undergraduate Association will host “We Are Worth Funding” Day of Action on Friday, Nov. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in 111 HUB.

During the event, students will have the  opportunity to send a letter to elected officials in Harrisburg to advocate for issues that are priorities for the University. For those who can’t make it to the actual event, there is an online form that can be used instead: http://capwiz.com/psu/issues/alert/?alertid=74130626.

“This is an opportunity for students to make their voices heard,” said Courtney Hummel, Director of Governmental Relations. “We need to take action and let our elected officials in Harrisburg know how funding impacts our education. It’s really a chance for us to tell our story and to spread the message that the University and its students are worth funding.”

The “We Are Worth Funding” campaign, an effort of the UPUA’s 10th Assembly, was created with the goal of advocating to state legislators in Harrisburg for increased state appropriations to Penn State University. The future of this campaign will create a stronger relationship between students and state legislators in order to illustrate the benefit a healthy state appropriation has on Penn State students and the entire Commonwealth through cooperation with various on campus student organizations.

All students are welcome to attend. There will be free snacks and pizza provided. Students are also encourage to use #WeAreWorthFunding on social media to spread the word.

The University Park Undergraduate Association works to provide students representation at the highest levels of administration and build programs to the benefit of undergraduates at University Park.
