UPUA Passes Elections Budget, Funds Movin’ On and Supports Change to Faculty Senate Policy
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Feb. 8, 2017 – The University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) met Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. in 302 HUB.
Speaker Shockley brought Bill #25-11: “The 2017 Elections Commission Budget” to the floor. The bill would provide funding for the series of events required for marketing and execution of the election process to the amount of $3,068.96. With a vote of 33-0-2, the budget was approved.
Next, College of Nursing Representative George J. Samuel brought Bill #26-11: “Funding for Movin’ On 2016-2017 Academic Year” to the floor. Movin’ On will be held on April 28, 2017 at Tailgate Lot 12. The UPUA was asked to organize a portion of the days activities from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. The bill would fund the use of three inflatables through PA Bounce, two generators and the purchase of 192 sunglasses at a cost of $2,221. The bill passed with a vote of 32-5.
Finally, College of Arts and Architecture Representative Andrew Ahr brought Resolution #37-11: “Support for Changing University Faculty Senate Policy 47-70 Online Student Progress Report (Early Progress Reports)” to the floor. Senate Policy 47-70 currently mandates professors to send out Early Progress Reports only when the student is in danger of earning a grade of C or below and falls during the three to six week time frame of the semester.. This resolution calls for the UPUA to support amendments to Faculty Senate Policy 47-70 that require all instructors of courses numbered 499 and below to complete early progress reports for their undergraduate students prior to the late-drop deadline. The resolution passed unanimously.
The University Park Undergraduate Association works to provide students representation at the highest levels of administration and build programs to the benefit of undergraduates at University Park.
