SUBJ: There’s Still Time to Run in the UPUA Elections
Good Morning Friends,
You may have seen the announcement that the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) — your student government — has a record-low number of candidates running in races. As a firm believer in accountability of ideas through contestation, this troubles me. Like you, I want to be sure that the student government is as representative of the student body as possible, but this is difficult to ensure if several colleges don’t have any candidates, and others are entirely uncontested.
I’m writing to remind you that it’s not too late to run for the Offices of President, Vice President, At-Large Representative, and your Academic College’s Representative as a write-in candidate! Write-in candidates are accepted up until March 30th, and all you have to do is email firstname.lastname@example.org to declare your intent to run.
As a write-in, you can still campaign and gather endorsements like any other candidate, and, there are various vacant positions on the ballot — especially for Academic Colleges — meaning a great way to get involved to advocate for your fellow Penn Staters!
You can learn more about the current candidates, which seats are uncontested or for which there are no candidates, and more at www.vote.psu.edu. UPUA Election Day is March 31st, 2021, and you can cast a ballot from 12:00am EST to 9:00pm EST at the same site. Don’t worry — I’ll send an email reminder that day as well, so you don’t forget.
Be sure to send any questions to the UPUA Elections Commission at email@example.com, or by tweeting them at @UPUA_Elections.
For the Glory,
Student Body President
